She remained a dedicated member of Wayside Chapel Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina for over 40 years. Helen’s unwavering faith, prayerful nature, and commitment to Bible study were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Helen’s thirst for knowledge led her to achieve remarkable academic accomplishments. After graduating from Russell Grove High School in Mannboro, Virginia at the age of 16, she attended Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama. Helen was the first among her siblings to leave home for college and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Tuskegee Institute. She furthered her education by obtaining a Master of Science degree in Counseling from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. Helen dedicated her career to education, serving as an elementary school counselor and a substitute teacher. She tirelessly advocated for individualized learning and fought for the rights of children in the educational system.
