A devastating car accident on Blanshard Street, just outside Victoria’s downtown, has claimed the life of well-known physician Tom Peebles. The collision took place around 1 o’clock on Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Bay Street and Blanshard Street, involving two vehicles traveling in opposite directions.
Occupants Hospitalized: Uncertainty Surrounds the Severity of Injuries
The Victoria Police Department reported that one vehicle, traveling north on Blanshard Street, crossed the median and collided with a southbound vehicle. Both occupants from the involved vehicles were rushed to the hospital for medical attention. The extent of their injuries remains unknown at this time. Eyewitnesses observed one of the cars flipping onto its roof following the impact.
Suspected Reckless Driving: Investigation Points to Negligence
Following the tragic incident, one of the drivers involved is being held on suspicion of reckless driving. The collision occurred near the intersection of Island Highway and Burnside Road West in View Royal on Monday morning. According to the West Shore RCMP, a Ford F-150 pickup truck allegedly ran a red light on Island Highway before colliding with a Honda Civic that was turning left. The pickup truck came to rest on the cement highway barrier beneath the railway bridge, causing significant damage to both vehicles.
Injuries and Charges: Driver Hospitalized, Recklessness Alleged
The driver of the Honda Civic was immediately transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford F-150 emerged from the collision without any physical harm. The West Shore RCMP has accused the F-150 driver of operating the vehicle without the necessary degree of care and attention, which is a violation of the Motor Vehicle Act.
